Hair Talk: The Braids Are Gone, But Not For Long!

sorry for the face this is 12 something @ night
Hello Everyone,

As you see I took my box braids down I did this about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Now when I had then in I was so excited to take them out so I can have my coils back but when I took them down and saw the madness that is my hair I couldn't wait to put the braids back in. But I knew this would be a chance for my hair to breath and take a load off. After the hard part was over I washed my hair with Garnier Fructis Smooth and Sleek Shampoo and then I did the Aphogee 2 Step Protein Treatment. Then I DC with my homemade mixture for about 1 hour, applied Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioning Milk as a leave-in sealed the moisture with castor oil, then did a two strand twist with Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque. The only problem I had was with detangling, I used a new comb/brush (review coming up) and I saw alot of shedding/breakage that really scared me so yes i stopped using that brush/comb asap and went back to my wide tooth lover. Now this could have been a result of not detangling for over a month and having the braids in but still I was scared. Aside from the scary stuff I had growth that made me grin from ear to ear [lol]. But with the breakage and the growth i still  didnt want to expose my hair to the elements just yet so I threw a homemade wig on for church until the heat hit me and that wig came right off [lol] But yes i will be putting the braids back in for the rest of the summer while I finish up some summer classes and what not so I don't have to do my hair and try to keep up with the fast pace of summer classes.

Don't mind the make up I was trying something new

Hair Talk: Is Going Natural A Trend?

Hello Everyone,

So I know this is not a new topic but it is something i want to speak on. I have read on blogs and watched videos of people saying that "Going Natural" is no longer a thing women do to get back to their roots or feel free, but we women do it now because it is "the thing to do". I for one do not see a problem if women do it because its a "trend" or if they just want to be free; what does it matter. This is a trend that is sweeping the world from models to singers to actresses natural hair is showing up everywhere and if a young girl sees that and says she loves her hair the way it is why should we complain. Going natural brings out a confidence in women that they themselves may not have had. Natural hair is different enough but short natural hair takes a lot of confidence to pull off especially when most of us live in a community where natural hair is rare. Our Afrocentric hair makes us different why would you not want to be apart of something that makes who us black women who we are.

Ugh i feel as if I'm rambling......bottom line if your going natural for you or because you admire someone else its all good do what makes you happy and if you need any advice id be more then happy to help any way i can.

Hello Everyone,

I live right next to Darby and this really makes me mad. I hate all the violence and all of the negativity that is being imposed of people who have no part in any of this foolishness. I am not a child of for me to be restricted to my home when i rather be outside really gets my gears turning. I just wish the madness would stop so we can enjoy our summer and our lives.

Hair Talk: Boxed In.

Hello Everyone,

This is past due but i just wanted to let you guys know that i did put box braids in for the summer time. I did them myself [first time ever] and it took me 3 days but only because I took so many breaks and just got bored in between. I've had them in for about 2 weeks now and they are holding up well. i grease my scalp at least once a week with peppermint oil and vitamin E oil, I try to mist it with water also once a week to keep my strands moist. The one thing i noticed is that my natural hair gets very frizzy and doesn't look very neat but i don't care, i love the "don't really care just got braids in my hair" kinda look. While braiding i made sure i did not braid so tight, I didn't want loads of tension on my scalp that would cause breakage. I use 2 and 1/2 of Super Braid X they were so long so i just cut it in half, but i might do them a bit longer next time the ones i did this time come to my hip. But here is a picture of me, the braids, and a bun:

Getting In Shape For Me.

Hello Everyone

Today starts my journey to me getting in shape not really to lose weight but to feel better and to have more energy. I have always been a somewhat active person but since school came to an end and I see myself getting alot more sluggish. So things that i plan on doing are:
  1. Walking for 30 mins everyday
  2. 100 sit-ups a day
  3. 3 inches for 3 mins a day
  4. No more red meat
  5. More water
  6. Eat healthier
So there you have it, just a feel things I will add to my day to begin to feel better about myself. Ill keep you all posted as the days go on.

PRESIDENT OBAMA WRITES ESSAY ON BEING THE FATHER FIGURE HE NEVER HAD

Hello Everyone,

With Father’s Day just around the corner, President Barack Obama has written andcontributed a personal essay to People Magazine’s upcoming weekly issue. In the composition, the father of 2 girls shared a bit about his life without a father and how he has managed to not repeat history and be the father he never had to his two daughters, Malia & Sasha. Peep a snippet of the essay here CONCRETELOOP:

After reading the snippet of the essay i was moved becase i know what that feels like growing up with out a father and its just nice to see that even successful people grew up with problems they still deal with them today. I think the this essay is a good read and i cant wait to go out and pick up a copy of People Magazine so i can read the rest
