Hair Talk: Playing in CLAY.

Hello Everyone,

I have really cut back on my shampooing, from once a week with sulfate packed shampoos to once a month with black soap mixture. The other day I wanted to try something new for a good good scalp clarifying product and my mind went straight to Bentonite Clay. I started using this product about 2 months ago as a facial treatment, but after doing some research I realized the it was also wonderful on hair. And i love it my hair and scalp were so clean, but always felt good to the touch not hard and stripped. Here are some before and after pictures.

Hair Talk: It's the GREEK in me.

Hello everyone,

First sorry for being gone for so long but Im back and going to stay consistent this time. So lately i noticed i have been skimping when it comes to the protein so i went on a search and found something wonderful. I found a Greek yogurt deep conditioner that makes my hair feel amazing here's the video (courtesy of Naptural85)  if your interested and here are the pictures from my trial and error.

Bottom line i love this stuff my curls look amazing and there was no need for any outrageous detageling because the yogurt took care of the hard stuff. The only thing i did different was that I didn't use lavender oil I used an oil mix I made.  I think everyone show try this at least once and see how good it works. Well thats it for today thanks so much for reading.

Hair Talk: Hair Of The Day.

Hello Everyone,

I never do anything to my hair, I always run to two strand twists after a wash or co-wash. So yes I'm boring I know....well at least when it comes to my hair. Well not any more from this day on I will try to do a hair of the day or week or something. This will give me a reason to experiment with my hair and styles. Now I would like to present Day 1:

I didnt do at all because as stated earlier "I'm boring" but bottom line I put good ol' two strand twists in for about a week then took them down this morning and these are my results. Very, very defined twists not very big but i think day 2 will change all that. Here are a few pictures of day one:

P.S. I'm 8months natural!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hair Talk: The Braids Are Gone, But Not For Long!

sorry for the face this is 12 something @ night
Hello Everyone,

As you see I took my box braids down I did this about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Now when I had then in I was so excited to take them out so I can have my coils back but when I took them down and saw the madness that is my hair I couldn't wait to put the braids back in. But I knew this would be a chance for my hair to breath and take a load off. After the hard part was over I washed my hair with Garnier Fructis Smooth and Sleek Shampoo and then I did the Aphogee 2 Step Protein Treatment. Then I DC with my homemade mixture for about 1 hour, applied Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioning Milk as a leave-in sealed the moisture with castor oil, then did a two strand twist with Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque. The only problem I had was with detangling, I used a new comb/brush (review coming up) and I saw alot of shedding/breakage that really scared me so yes i stopped using that brush/comb asap and went back to my wide tooth lover. Now this could have been a result of not detangling for over a month and having the braids in but still I was scared. Aside from the scary stuff I had growth that made me grin from ear to ear [lol]. But with the breakage and the growth i still  didnt want to expose my hair to the elements just yet so I threw a homemade wig on for church until the heat hit me and that wig came right off [lol] But yes i will be putting the braids back in for the rest of the summer while I finish up some summer classes and what not so I don't have to do my hair and try to keep up with the fast pace of summer classes.

Don't mind the make up I was trying something new

Hair Talk: Is Going Natural A Trend?

Hello Everyone,

So I know this is not a new topic but it is something i want to speak on. I have read on blogs and watched videos of people saying that "Going Natural" is no longer a thing women do to get back to their roots or feel free, but we women do it now because it is "the thing to do". I for one do not see a problem if women do it because its a "trend" or if they just want to be free; what does it matter. This is a trend that is sweeping the world from models to singers to actresses natural hair is showing up everywhere and if a young girl sees that and says she loves her hair the way it is why should we complain. Going natural brings out a confidence in women that they themselves may not have had. Natural hair is different enough but short natural hair takes a lot of confidence to pull off especially when most of us live in a community where natural hair is rare. Our Afrocentric hair makes us different why would you not want to be apart of something that makes who us black women who we are.

Ugh i feel as if I'm rambling......bottom line if your going natural for you or because you admire someone else its all good do what makes you happy and if you need any advice id be more then happy to help any way i can.

Box Braids

Yesterday i spent my day watching great classic movies such as love and basketball, light it up, set it off, brown sugar, best man, the wood, and poetic justice and man was it a day filled with so many ups and downs. But any way now i want box braids. Just the whole old school vibe is really calling out to me. I just love the down to earth vibe and a plus is that this can be my protective style for the summer time. No with all of this i have a few cons.

  • I do not and will not pay $1??.00 for a hair style that i might only keep in for 2 months plus school is right around the corner {books, books,books}
  • I know how my African sistas braid and i love my edges
  • I dont want my thick coily hair to be man handled.
So to put an end to all of these problems i think im going to take on the task myself. Im going to sit down and focus on the goal at hand, which is long Solange/Poetic Justice type braids for the summer time. Now i know that if i do it by myself i might not get the exact results as the lovely ladies in this post but hopefully the good will over shadow the bad.

Here are a few pics for inspiration:
